Catherine Apicella, PT, PYT, PRPC

Helping others improve their well-being has been my focus for over 20 years. I graduated with a Masters of Science in Physical Therapy from Columbia University in 1999.  I have worked in a variety of settings but found my true calling when I discovered pelvic health in 2014.  Since that time, I have been furthering my education and developing a treatment philosophy that honors each client as an individual with unique life experiences that profoundly affect the way dysfunction manifests within the body.

Personally, my first child was born in 2008 via C-section due to failure to progress.  Although both he and I were healthy, I was devastated.  I felt that my body had failed me, and I felt pressured to agree to a surgical intervention that, looking back, I felt was unnecessary.  I realized at that moment that despite my knowledge as a physical therapist, I was largely ignorant about my own body and how to prepare for birth.  I set out to change that.  I took my first continuing education course in pelvic health through the Herman and Wallace Pelvic Rehabilitation Institute, and also pursued certification as a Professional Yoga Therapist through the Professional Yoga Therapy Institute, now known as Living Well Institute.  I began my journey as a pelvic health physical therapist in the University of North Carolina Health System in 2017, and following relocation to PA for my husband’s job, I worked in an outpatient clinic for 4 years as a pelvic health PT.  I received my Pelvic Rehabilitation Practitioner Certification (PRPC) from Herman and Wallace, designating expertise in the field of pelvic health.  I launched Breathe and Blossom in May of 2021 in order to provide care on my terms, and am loving the ride!

My desire to better help my patients, and recognition of the limitations of traditional physical therapy practice, has put me on a path to provide a unique, total-body approach to healing.  I was truly fortunate to have received mentorship with Paul McAndrew in treatment incorporating The Feldenkrais Method. Through aspects of both yoga and Feldenkrais I have deepened my understanding of the mind-body connection and how to assist my patients to improve body awareness through mindful movement.

I am thrilled to be on this journey, and welcome the opportunity to partner with you!
